Rio 2016: Korea scoops silver & bronze in men’s Judo, women’s weightlifting

Staying in Brazil, a bigger medal harvest
for Team Korea.
The nation scooped two more medals — one
silver and one bronze.
Kim Mok-yeon tells us how the men’s judo and
women’s weightlifting squads made some noise
in Rio.
South Korean weightlifter Yoon Jin-hee won
bronze in the women’s 53 kilogram category
on the second day of the Rio Olympics.
Yoon lifted 88 kilograms in the snatch and
111 kilograms in clean and jerk for a total
of 199 kilograms.
At first, she looked to be on her way to 4th
place, but as Chinese Li Yajun , the 2013
World Champion, bombed out in the clean & jerk
and failed to post a total, Yoon moved up
to the third place, taking the bronze medal.
The gold and silver medals went to Hsu Shu-Ching
from Taiwan and Hidilyn Diaz from the Philippines
respectively.
Later in men’s Judo, Korea’s An Baul brought
home the silver medal in the men’s 66 kilogram
class.
Many expected him to win the gold but he had
to settle for silver after losing against
Fabio Basile of Italy in the final.
He lost by an ippon after just 84 seconds.
Only an hour prior to the final, An had won
his semifinal match against his long-time
rival from Japan,… Masahi Ebinuma .
