2/27/16 – WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament – All Divisions


Eight wrestlers from our area enter the evening. hoping to bring home gold at the WIAA state individual wrestling tournament. With more from Championship Saturday. here is News 8 sports director Gregg Wavrunek. Hello Charlie. Third place as a freshman. Second place as a sophomore. What would be in store for Central’s Jaden Van Maanen in his junior season? This a rematch of last year’s championship match as he faces Mukwonago’s Nathan Smith. Second period takedown puts Van Maanen up five-nothing. And it’s a first place finish this time around as he wins 9-2. Another big rematch as Onalaska’s Konrad Ernst faces Menomonie’s Mason Stokke. Stokke winning in last year’s state semifinals. Stokke scores the takedown in the first period and goes on to defeat Ernst 7-nothing in the 220 pound championship match. Also in Division one. Sparta sophomore Hayden Krein at 152 pounds. Scores the third period reversal to go up 12-7. Krein winning a state title after winning a 12-8 decision. Division two. 152-pounds. West Salem/Bangor’s Devin Bahr completes a perfect season one year removed from A-C-L surgery. Goes up 7-1 with the nearfall at the end of the first period and wins his match 13-7 to finish the season 50-and-oh. 132-pounds. Viroqua sophomore Ryan Hannah. He said with a stronger opponent. he had to rely on his speed and quickness. Takedown gives him a 3-0 lead as he wins a 5-2 decision to capture the state title. 113 pounds…Mauston’s Chris Ruf. His opponent. Denmark’s Brock Bergelin takedown in the second period puts him ahead 3-2. Ruf loses a 6-2 decision. Division three. 132 pounds. Ithaca/Weston’s Hunter Dischler rides his opponent out as the final seconds click down. Dischler wins a 5-3 decision for his third WIAA state championship. More Ithaca/Weston at 160 pounds. Stetson Clary lost in the championship match last season. this year he’s a winner on Championship Saturday. Takedown and nearfall to end the second period as he wins 13-6. The crowd of a little under 14-thousand setting the record for Saturday’s championship session. An always electric atmosphere here at the Kohl Center for this final weekend in February.
